RIGID P84
(RCP) FILTER MEDIUM FIELD ASSESSMENT
Client: TEXON (UK) Ltd
Financing agency: TEXON (UK) Ltd
Project summary: As an on-going part of the development of rigidised P84 (RCP) filter medium, EDT has run a full-scale trial of the TEXON filter medium on a test filter unit at a commercial tyre remoulding company. The test filter was used to clean the flue gases from a coal fired shell boiler. The aim of the test was to assess whether or not the rigidised P84 filter element could survive the thermal, chemical and mechanical environment within a pulse-cleaned filter treating high temperature, condensing flue gas from a nominated combustion process, in this case coal combustion. This filtration project was carried out by EDT including, procurement, installation, instrumentation, commissioning and operating the filter.
Client: Hilson Group
Financing agency: Hilson Group Ltd/EDT
Project summary:
EDT were engaged to review the available systems for joining sections of fabric filter support cages and to design a new system that would offer better utility to the filter end user. Traditional systems are variously complex, expensive or difficult to use. EDT conceived a novel system based on a universal clip manufactured in a high performance engineering polymer. The clip is designed to suit all cage sizes. Extensive laboratory tests were carried out including tensile strength, bend strength of the completed cage joint and long term heat soak tests. Test clips have also been installed at 3 commercial filter sites including a non ferrous smelting plant, an MSW incinerator and a coal fired boiler. Results confirm the suitability of the design and material. The ZETA clip is now in commercial production.
Emission control on a kitchen extract system
Client: UK SME
Financing agency: UK SME/DTI Smart Award
Project summary:
A prototype test unit was designed by EDT to sample gas from a kitchen extract system to remove the pollutant species of particulates and Volatile Organic Compounds. EDT were involved at every stage of the project from obtaining finance for the project to the design, development and manufacture of the test unit. EDT specified the equipment and carried out the test programme. The unit was installed on a site operated by a multi national fast food outlet company
Intelligent filter control system
Client: EDT
Financing agency: EDT/DTI Smart
Project summary:
Filters which are incorrectly operated are very wasteful in energy terms and are subject to high maintenance costs. Typically filters are either overcleaned resulting in high compressed air losses or operate with high differential pressures causing excessive power consumption by the ID fan. EDT has developed a filter cleaning control system which ensures that the filter always operates at its most efficient which has the benefit of reducing energy cost. Maintenance costs are also reduced as bag life is extended.
