EDT has produced a number of designs and specifications for the energy/combustion industry including.....
DRIER CYCLONE
ASSESSMENT AND RE-DESIGN
Client: A major UK foodstuff manufacturer
Financing agency:
Project summary: In order to keep up with changing emissions legislation and process requirements, an installed cyclone set at one of the client's factories was studied to assess the potential for performance improvements. EDT computer modelled the existing cyclone design and the process stream feeding it, assessed the performance, and then modelled modifications to the cyclone geometry to assess the impact this would have on collection efficiency, pressure loss and solids flow within the performance constraints of the process and emissions legislation. A significant improvement in collection was realised.
FABRIC FILTER SPECIFICATION FOR BONEMEAL INCINERATION
Client: Wykes Engineering Ltd
Financing agency: Wykes Engineering Ltd
Project summary: Subsequent to the slaughter of cattle in the UK due to BSE, a large amount of meat and bone meal, produced during the processing of slaughtered cattle, requires disposal in a safe manner. A new fluidised bed combustion process was developed for incinerating meat and bone meal from animal rendering. In order to meet emissions regulations, a flue gas cleaning system was required. EDT was engaged to design a bespoke fabric/ceramic filter unit for the process. A 1 ton/h pilot plant was built with a fabric filter collecting fly ash from the fbc combustor. EDT designed and specified the complete filter system including control philosophy, filter media selection, mechanical design, aerodynamic design and all necessary ancillaries to manage the process stream from the fbc unit.
DRINKING WATER TREATMENT PLANT - SOFTENING AND CONDITIONING
Client: Ampleforth Abbey and College
Financing agency: Ampleforth Abbey and College
Project summary: Ampleforth have their own bore hole water supply. Water from bore holes tends to be high in iron and manganese, and water hardness. EDT assisted Ampleforth in the selection of an iron removal and water softening system which has helped reduce their operating and maintenance costs.
SPECIFICATION FOR A FABRIC FILTER PLANT FOR A 50 t/h COAL FIRED BOILER
Client: A major UK foodstuff manufacturer
Financing agency:
Project summary: In order to maintain compliance with current emissions legislation, the client reviewed particulate emissions from one of their 50 t/h coal fired boilers and engaged EDT to review appropriate emissions control technologies. This resulted in the client electing to investigate fabric filtration with dry scrubbing and wet scrubbing. EDT produced a bespoke specification for a fabric filter taking into account the process and operational peculiarities of the boiler. This specification went out to tender to 4 filter suppliers with the 4 tender returns being evaluated by EDT for cost efficiency.
